Connected in the desert
Dating from August 2009, this was the first post ever on the site. We wrote, “with some effort the entire continent will have viable Internet options.” What an understatement…
Although only 3% of Sub-Saharan Africa is online, the Internet is coming closer to the masses. Prices for both computers and broadband access are slowly decreasing and more connectivity options are now available. The above photo, however, looks staged – Apple computers are uncommon in most of Africa, and who knows if these men are connected to the Internet. Still, the idea is correct and with some effort the entire continent will have viable Internet options.
