Youth in Swaziland are turning to social media as an alternative to mainstream media but many are unaware of its dangers.

A new study of thousands of mobile phone users in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe finds that mobile phones, though still underutilized, are contributing to an increase in reading.

Despite the long name, this resource (in partnership with UNESCO) is simple to use and browsing its myriad of entries is a great way to spend an afternoon. Most of the data is from the period 2007-2009 and can still considered current.
