At least 16 African cities and 11 countries (3 North African, 8 Sub-Saharan African) either held or will be holding a 54-hour Startup Weekend hackathon in mid-November 2013.

At least 5 African Startup Weekends are scheduled for the second half of 2013. The events are designed to develop innovative businesses that serve local needs.

In November 2012 alone, ten Startup Weekend hackathon events are to be held in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The number of African weekends devoted to creating startup companies and apps has grown tremendously since 2010.
