At least 16 African cities and 11 countries (3 North African, 8 Sub-Saharan African) either held or will be holding a 54-hour Startup Weekend hackathon in mid-November 2013.

In the past two years, there have been more than 50 Kickstarter and Indiegogo projects to help improve African ICT access and/or literacy. Most have successfully raised money within the past year.
The second part of this week’s African Internet news round-up consists of 44 stories that focus on African ICT trends.

The number of African weekends devoted to creating startup companies and apps has grown tremendously since 2010.

The first accelerator program in Africa, 88mph, will invest minimum $200,000 in 8-15 startups by Sept. 15th.
Tech startup lists rarely include companies outside South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana. In 2012, five lists have acknowledged only 7 countries.
