mHealth Africa designs colorful overview of the ‘fierce’ African mobile market
July 11, 2012 » MobileOne Comment
mHealth Africa, a new project to spread healthcare through mobile tech in emerging countries, has started with phenomenal momentum after releasing a top-notch infographic. The robust 990px by 2,226px image is divided into sections that give a great overview of mobile adoption in the largest African markets.
Colorful highlights include:
- the 5 largest mobile operators in Africa (MTN, Vodafone, Orange, Airtel, Etisalat) which connect 57% of all mobile subscribers
- local leaders (Safaricom in Kenya, Maroc Telecom in Morocco, Orascom in Algeria)
- mobile subscriptions per 100 people in 15 nations
- a scaled visualization of the 15 biggest mobile markets (# of subs)
Kudos to the author for pointing out how use of multiple SIMs leads to an over-counting of individual mobile phone subscribers. Be sure to follow mHealth Africa for updates on how mHealth is changing lives in Africa and beyond!
Thanks for sharing,
I love the way you summarized it!
