Super-quick recap of Africa Internet Summit 2014
The second edition of the Africa Internet Summit (AIS) was held in Djibouti in early June 2014 under the theme “Beyond connection: Internetworking for African Development.”
AIS, a regional multi-stakeholder ICT conference, is a key educational and business ICT event in Africa that aims to bring under one roof the ICT business and technical community in Africa to discuss ICT issues and challenges. After all, sharing ICT knowledge is a crucial part of formulating new policies and applying ideas within the sustainable African development context.
This year, workshops, sessions, and panels touched on the following array of themes:
- IPv6
- DNSSEC
- content management training
- mobile application development
- Google Apps
- AfREN, the African Research and Education Networking
- peering
- security
- Internet leadership
- disaster management
- e-health applications
- mobile money apps
Participation was strong with more than 500 attendees from 63 countries. Plenty of outside interest was noted as well:
Last minute plane tickets were beyond my budget 🙁 Wish I could’ve been there.
