Global Startup Battle underway in 16 African cities

November 19, 2013  »  BusinessNo Comment

The Global Startup Battle promises to bring the world “two of the most innovative weekends of the year.” At least 16 African cities and 11 countries (3 North Africa, 8 Sub-Saharan Africa) either held or will be holding a 54-hour hackathon in mid-November 2013 as part of the broader event. Teams will gather and work under the Startup Weekend model to create a viable startup company in a matter of days.

Essentially, Global Startup Battle is a coordinated series of Startup Weekends. On top of that, the startup competitions are also part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW). Top finalists from each city will also be eligible for a variety of additional awards and support circles. Better yet, there is a chance that each participating team will win the grand prize of $20,000 USD in funding and a flight to Google HQ.

Many African cities that have hosted Startup Weekends in the past will again host an event this week. Follow #GSB2013 or click on the logos to visit the respective Startup Weekend city pages to keep up on the action!
